In light of our snowstorm and dropping temps here in good old Wisconsin, I decided to remember the good old days of snow in Arizona.

When I turned 16, and all of my friends could drive, we made a yearly trip each January to Flagstaff, Arizona to play in the snow. We waited until the weekend after the biggest snow had fallen, and then we'd all pile into on person's car, usually loaded with snacks, water and road trip tunes and make the 3 hour trek up the mountain to play in the snow. We'd stop at Target in Flagstaff, buy a disc and head off to a secluded area to play. We didn't want to share our fun with total strangers. We wanted pictures that involved us, and not some random dude sporting shorts, a Hawaiian shirt, Santa hat and hiking boots...Oh yeah, I totally kid you not, we saw that one year. We laughed about it all the way back down the mountain that night. We'd also stop at some place where families were making their way down hills and offer up our newly acquired toy. We lived in Phoenix. What did we need a snow disc for? Besides, it's only 3 bucks.

When I was 17, we made our trek up the mountain to hang out in the snow. Please, excuse the craptasticness that is my scanner. This is a picture that didn't quite make my scrapbook. Notice something here? Why yes, I am wearing a spaghetti strap shirt. In January. On my way up a mountain. To play...In snow. I also only wore a sweater and some 1 dollar gloves I bought at a gas station we stopped at for bathroom breaks and McDonald's. Would I ever dream of wearing such an outfit up here in Wisconsin? HELL NO!! Are you crazy?! I would FREEZE to death! I think the coldest it ever was on one of our snow adventures was 30 degrees, and that was not unbearable at all. I mean, we all did freak out that year and ran to Wal-Mart at 10PM and bought sweats to wear to Perkin's for dinner and on the ride home, but still...Not unbearable.

Up here? I freeze just going out to start the car to warm up when I need to go to Target or something. This kinda cold just isn't my cup of tea. Seriously, -30 with the windchill..No thanks. I'll stay inside under my blanket and hide from the wind. I've got books, movies and Netflix on X-Box to keep me entertained at night, and three kids, two of whom have the ability to make me laugh at the drop of a hat at the moment, to keep me company during the day. I'm set.

-->Great Flashback Friday! I've been to Arizona only once and we stayed in Phoenix where it was in the 70s in March. I was thrilled to wear a tank top even going "north" to Sedona where it was still warm to me but Not the locals. ha!

Great flashback! I guess I didn't even know they got snow in AZ. But being there's mountains I guess it makes sense!

Yes, a tanktop in WI to play in the snow would never work!

My goodness - I'm shivering just reading about this. I have NO idea what that's like. I'm in California, where I can park the car outside, and on a typical December day or night, just walk right out to it, turn the key, put it in drive, and take off. None of this silly "warming up of the car". It was probably like that for you in Arizona, though, right?
