Are Cooking And Baking Really That Different?

Really, are they? Why can I make a cupcake that everyone loves, but burn a chicken? Why can I make a birthday cake, but totally fry spaghetti sauce? I don't understand it. I really don't. My mom can cook. My aunt can cook. My grandma can attempt to cook, but I can't. Well, I can make a casserole. You know, that resembles baking. You do have to bake a casserole, but if it's on the stove top it burns/boils over/just doesn't look right, then Ethan complains and David looks at me weird. There needs to be some fairy that comes to your wedding and when you share your first kiss with your husband, she waves some magic wand over your head that makes you the ideal chef. You don't have to be gourmet, just be able to make something edible. If she throws in the magical self cleaning kitchen and the ability to save $100 at the grocery store without even trying, that would be great.

Sometimes I wonder if I missed out on the cooking gene because I lived with grandma instead of mom. Grandma was the freezer queen. We were well stocked with frozen chicken, frozen potatoes, frozen fish sticks..You get the idea. If it was frozen, it was probably in our freezer. If it could be frozen, it was probably in our freezer. I didn't have to worry about all the measuring, frying, flipping, sauteing...All I had to do was open the freezer, peel back the plastic wrap and throw it in the microwave. Hey, I was in high school though, so it didn't really matter. Grandma worked nights and I had to get up at 4:30 in the morning for cheer practice. Whatever was quick and easy so I could eat it over homework and hurry through a shower was fine with me.

I guess that's enough of my kitchen rant. I need to go read Baby Love for the 100th time since checking it out at the library yesterday.......Joy.......
