Writer's Workshop: Wow..Am I Ever Bored!

It's Writer's Workshop day. Head on over to Mama Kat's to join the fun! You know you want to! When your done, sign the linky and check out what other people are saying.

Today, I chose the prompt Make A List Of 10 Things To Stave Off Boredom.

Well, here's the thing. I live in Wisconsin. It's also winter. When I stave off boredom, I like to go outdoors. Since I live in Wisconsin, and it's winter, I'm not doing much of going outdoors. So, let's pretend it's Wisconsin, and it's summer. I also live in a town with just over 1,000 people in it. Seriously, it's tiny. The number of people that attend my son's school and all the staff that work there are way less than the number of kids I had in my graduating class in high school. It's insane. So, let's pretend it's summer, June to be exact when crap actually happens in this town.

1) Attend Clear Lake Days. It's a three day event that celebrates Clear Lake. There is a carnival and a parade. For a small town, you'd think this parade is pretty short. Uh..WRONG. Everyone in town gets in on this thing. I kid you not, this parade lasts about an hour and a half. Insanity. Also, they have little kids doing back handsprings down the street to promote a tumbling class at the community center. That's just a scraped knee and a few stitches to the forehead waiting to happen.

2) Go on a garage sale hunt. Really, the only time to get into this is during Clear Lake Days. There are so many garage sales you can't even drive through the town because of all the people walking. They will actually close down entire streets for these garage sales. It's OK though. I could walk to one side of the town and back in about 40 minutes.

3) Hang out at your friend's brother's farm and light fireworks. During the summer, we do this a lot. The kids don't touch the fireworks, but the adults go crazy over it. I'm too much of a wimp to get near it though, so I leave it to everyone else.

4) Take a walk to the park. I love the park. It's actually very pretty an scenic there. It's also a really nice walk. See:You can go fishing, swimming, camping, they have barbecue grills..All kinds of stuff. We've been trying to teach Ethan how to ride his bike there. So far, he can't do it.

5) Hang out on the front steps after it's dark and watch the fireflies. Ethan really likes to do this, and I like doing it with him. We talk about his day. Besides, being from Arizona, I'd never seen fireflies before, and I'm easily entertained.

6) Take a walk to the library. If I could, I'd live in the library. The librarians know me by name because I'm there..ALL THE TIME! I'm always ordering books and browsing. My kids love the library too, which makes it even better.

7) Catch up on a week's worth of show's that you and your hubby both enjoy. Since David works Tuesday-Friday, we never get to watch anything together. So I don't watch any of the shows we both enjoy during the week. I record them, so when David is home on the weekend, we can spend some time together watching our favorite shows and chatting.

8) Scrapbook. I like scrap booking. I'm trying to get my paper crafting up to super awesome level. I've checked out books from the library and read blogs and looked at craft websites. Some of that stuff is SO COOL! I want a Cricut. I'm working on my paper crafting, so when Grayson's first birthday comes around I can make my own Happy Birthday Grayson banner, make gift bags and possibly make party hats. I can do it. It will be done.

9) Play board games with your family..Except Monopoly. Don't play that with David. He doesn't pay for his properties. Seriously. I don't know how I miss that, but I always do. A game I recommend though? Cranium. So fun.

10) Bake. Ethan loves to bake, and I love baking with him. We checked out 'Hello Cupcake' from the library this past summer, and had SO MUCH FUN making those cupcakes. We made Alien Cupcakes and Owl Cupcakes. There were other's we wanted to try, but the book was due back and on hold for other people, so we didn't get a chance to try them. I'd love to own this book!

And, there you go, 10 things to stave off boredom.

Great post! I loved all the things that you do for boredom. It made me think of all the fun things in my town that I do when I am bored!

I'm a major Gilmore Girls freak, so that parade totally made me think of Stars Hollow.

I wish that we lived close to a library....but we do live close to a bookstore, and everyone who works there know me as the lady who comes in with her family and spends several hours reading books....I buy something every once in a while to pay for all of that free reading :)
