Flashback Friday: Prom..The Conclusion!

Flashback Friday with WebSavvyMom.comLook at that! You can even see the top of my dress in this one! It came with a matching purse. Do I know where that purse is now? NO! Whatever. The dress doesn't even fit anymore. I only still have it because I spent $107 of my hard earned babysitting money to pay for it.

Anyways, back to the story. So, if you read my first prom story HERE then you know this is the conclusion to that craptasticness. So, here we go!

After my horrid prom, I'm talking as soon as I walked in the door, I called one of my very best friend's, Kelly, and told her what happened. She listened, and then told me, "Wow..I'm so happy I'm not going to my prom!" I stopped talking, and said, "WHAT?! YES YOU ARE!!" I demanded to know when it was. She stammered something about May 12, 2001. I said, "I'm putting $50 in the mail to you tomorrow. Buy tickets. We are going to that prom, and you'll have a fabulous time!" She protested. I demanded some more. She grumbled a, "Fine." We hung up for the night. The next morning, I shoved a $50 into and envelope, and popped it into the mail.

Three weeks later, on May 11, directly after school, my grandmother drove me to the other side of Phoenix so I could spend the weekend at Kelly's place. We walked in and my grandmother go to chatting with Kelly's mother (whom I love so very much!) and Kelly and I compared dresses. As soon as my grandmother left, Kelly and I took off for our ritual walk to Safeway. It's just a thing we had. Whenever I was at her place, we had to walk to Safeway for some random crap. Who knows what we were buying. I don't even remeber half the crap we got there. I'm pretty sure we got popsicles though, because it was a staple of our walks. Had to have one. We got back to her place, watched movies and talked about our days at Girl Scout camp. Yeah..Those were the days.

The next day, we lounged around the house and took another trip to Safeway. After that trip, we took a ride with Kelly's mother to her grandmother's house (whom I also love!) to say hello and have a quick brunch. Her mother and grandmother we gushing about how excited they were that I had talked Kelly into going to prom. I really didn't give her a choice. She was going, and she was going to LOVE IT!

Finally, at about 5, we started getting ready. I did my own hair this time, as well as my own nails. You can't see them in the picture, but trust me, they're hideous. The nails, not the hair. The hair I just put up in a clip. The nails were a horrible pink and I glued a couple of them on crooked. I tried to keep my french ones looking nice after my prom, but I had a mishap making my bed and broke one off. It actually launched across my room, bounced off the TV and hit my light bulb in my bedside lamp. It's a good thing it didn't break! Her mom made us a fabulous sphagetti carbonara dinner. We had sparkling cider. Her other friend that was going with us came over and had dinner with us. Her mom served us dinner on her special china. It was awesome.

After dinner, we headed out to the Tovera Mansion, where the prom was being held. It was NOTHING like my prom. There was a pool surrounded by twinkling lights, there was a lattice overhang covered in twinkling lights, there was an indoor buffet, complete with chocolate fountain and ice sculpture, and KARAOKE! Oh yeah, I did karaoke, and it was AWESOME! We danced. We snacked. We played Blackjack. The theme was Clue, and when you walked into prom, they gave you clue cards and $5,000 in monopoly money to gamble with. I lost all mine. Don't take me to a real casino.

At the end of the night, we all loaded into the car and headed out to Denny's for post-prom breakfeast. We were there laughing and talking and having a great time until 3AM. We then all headed back to Kelly's for a post-prom slumber party. We woke up early and made french toast and eggs for breakfeast, laughing the whole time. It was SO much fun. SO MUCH! It sure beat the tuxedos and ballgowns off my own prom, which was crap. Before I left that afternoon, Kelly and I hugged and she thanked me for making me go to her prom. Hey, what are friends for!? Besides, I got a second prom, and it was worth it!

That second prom has to be the best one I have ever heard of. How fun. I'm glad that you got a second chance at a good prom.

Hi! Great story. My first prom my mother threatened to call all my guy friends to ask them to go until one agreed. I took my BOYFRIEND because if I HAD to go I should go with him. A random guy my mom met at her work showed up before I left for the prom.
